There was the sound of bones slamming against concrete as the Lurigancho Prison Chaplains surrounded us and gave us safe passage to the auditorium. Ronnie Hepperly had been there many times, and it was amazing to see the reaction of hundreds of hardened inmates as he mentioned some by name, and turned slightly to the entire group and said, “We love you.”
At first you could have heard a pen drop, but that was quickly overtaken by the cheers of grown men who had lost their dignity and pride when they came through the front gates of Lurigancho and became prisoners of Peru. But… there is hope. And that day hundreds found it.
